Now, does anyone know of any reason why I can't simply bolt up an 8.8" 31-spline (an upgrade from the 28-spline, someone tell me if there's a problem with doing this?) 5-lug rear end? Also, if that's possible, what's left to do to convert the rear from drum to disc brakes, or do I simply need to purchase an appropriate brake kit? As well, will the fact I've chosen to go with a 31-spline axle instead of a 28 limit my choice of brake kits?
I know their is a slight difference in width between the different years. The acutall 28-31 spline should not be a issue at all. When you try to eliminate the c-clips though i know you will run into issues with the ABS toner ring. But in your case i dont think that would be a isssue.
The drum brakes are hydralic correct? Then i seen no reason for issues. I would search google for a 4 lug to 5 lug swap. I've seen them write articles in the mags and im sure you can find them online somewhere. Try searching MM&FF site or the 5.0 mags site.
