Default So many conversions.

My '82 Mustang GT has many obsolete technologies on it, all of which I've looked at replacing. The four to five lug conversion, rear drum to disc brake conversion, and 7.5" to 8.8" rear. I figured I'd make it easy on myself and attempt to combine the three projects as much as I could. Now, does anyone know of any reason why I can't simply bolt up an 8.8" 31-spline (an upgrade from the 28-spline, someone tell me if there's a problem with doing this?) 5-lug rear end? Also, if that's possible, what's left to do to convert the rear from drum to disc brakes, or do I simply need to purchase an appropriate brake kit? As well, will the fact I've chosen to go with a 31-spline axle instead of a 28 limit my choice of brake kits?

I know their is a slight difference in width between the different years. The acutall 28-31 spline should not be a issue at all. When you try to eliminate the c-clips though i know you will run into issues with the ABS toner ring. But in your case i dont think that would be a isssue.

The drum brakes are hydralic correct? Then i seen no reason for issues. I would search google for a 4 lug to 5 lug swap. I've seen them write articles in the mags and im sure you can find them online somewhere. Try searching MM&FF site or the 5.0 mags site.

i wouldn't worry about the c clips if you're doing discs on the rear.
