you dont lose boost pressure, it just takes longer to achieve a certain pressure. boost is dictated by your wastegate spring...it runs off a vacuum/boost signal on the intake side. once a certain pressure is attained the waste gate opens and dumps excess exhaust to hold the pressure steady.
the unintercooled rear mount is similar to a front mounted turbo with an intercooler.
they do have their pro's and cons though. the exhaust gas cools somewhat before it makes it back there, so a smaller exhaust housing is used. and its somewhat easy to steal being right under the car and all.
