you did not mess up. you always have to make your insurance company aware of any accidents you have been involved in.


if you report the claim to the at fault insurance company then you wont have to pay anything.

if the other insurance company takes too long and you decide to go through your insurance, then you will have to pay the deductible. your insurance company would then fix your vehicle and subrogate against the at fault party. whenever your insurance company gets paid for the loss then your 1k deductible will be refunded to you.

you did everything fine. your insurance company will take care of you and make sure you get paid.

also, you might want to report the claim to the at fault insurance company so things move a little faster. unfortunatly the majority of at fault parties do not report to their insurance company hopeing the accident will just disappear.
