Back in the day 79 I had a Camaro with the motor from the SS/D natioinal record holder in it. When I got the car it had a 450 horse 454 and the guy with the record holder wanted it so we traded. The car would hit 165 in 3/8's of a mile with 3.73 gears still had some left. On more than one occasion I left many a patrol car far behind. One time the officer rolled his car trying to catch me. I never saw it as he was literally miles behind me. As luck would have it someone got my tag number and I got arrested. Now here is the kicker. This was in Lafayette Louisiana. They wrote me a pile of tickets. Once I posted bail his captain called me into his office and told me that since I was able to control my car at speeds of 170 mph and his officer could not even handle 120 and they did not actually catch me that I was free to go and he wished that his officer could drive a little better. Of course that was back in the young and stupid days and there is now way I would even think of driving like that now. And it was on long country roads. But the CHP officer may be getting ribbed by his buddies for a long time. I am thankful that no one was ever hurt back when I did that kind of stuff. And am thankful to be alive doing that stuff on bias ply tires. N-50 15's on the rear if that tells you how many decades ago that was.
