You dont want to break the seal between the main case and mid case. After you remove the bolts place a big screwdriver in between the drain plug and mid case. You can pry there and safely break the seal of the outer case without disturbing the seal of the mid case. For clarification, there are four cases. Bell housing, main case, mid case, outer case. Next you have to remove the VC (17 in pic). Again, you have to be very careful not to break seal between the main case and mid case. It is best to put 4 bolts back in with some spacers . This will hold all the cases together so as not to loose your seal. Now you can safely pry off the VC. Once the VC is off you can slide the new shaft in. Install retaining bearing and reinstall VC.

Damn Jerry I thought I was right, close it just would of taken him an extra 2 hrs of pulling and putting back the tranny.
