I guess to more specifically answer these questions:
No problem with hills or pulling out into traffic. The gearing is perfect for zipping around town and doing burnouts with the cheap-ass tiny Eagle GA tires. Of course this observation is from driving my 5-speed manual. I have no experience driving an autotragic xB.
Very comfortable car to drive in. The interior space is HUGE.
The stock stereo is okay. I had the standard "Pioneer" system in my '04 and it had lots of bass distortion when turned up. I fixed this by adding a small sub and cranking down the bass on the headunit. Sounded pretty good for not re-doing the entire stereo system. If you are a hard-core Audiophile, you'll probably want to rethink the entire stereo system.
