I think your owners manual will tell you the proper procedure they recommend. I would go 600-800 miles under 5-6k.

Also if you are picking up the bike for the first time be very careful, cause brand new tires wont grab like you think they will, especially in this weather. Just get a couple of easy miles in before you get out on the busy ass road. Good luck
