Default Impessions of a Porsche 930

1) I like power steering. The 930 doesnt have it. And you can tell, at ANY speed. Steering is VERY demanding, and fairly slow

2) A 4 speed manual geared to goto like 210mph is NOT cool on a course where you only hit ~80mph. This is even worse when combined to an engine that doesnt like to make power off-idle, and is laggy-ish. On a good note, ive never driven a tranny that can take 2-1 shifts so simply and easily.

3) OLD BFG R1s arent the best tires ever.

4) The rear end of a 930 is wider than you think. Remember this while coming out of turn and taking the "wide" line, because you will drop a wheel into the grass, and the lovely people at Martin Sports Car club WILL call you off-course.

5) I like throttle response....the 930 has none if youre not in the meaty part of the powerband. Refer to #2 to see how often you reach the "meaty part of the powerband".

6) Tony drives that thing far better than I do. Props to him. He beat me by 2 seconds, and I dont know how. At a Florida State Fairground events, Im suprised he can pull the times he does in that car.

7) You have to EASE on the brakes. If you dont, you'll lock the fronts before the weight is over them, and they will flatspot, although not badly. Sorry Tony

Porsches still have that "cool" factor. You can't deny that, no matter how slow they are driven.

Special thanks to Tony for letting me drive the Porsche. Fun car, but NOT an autocross beast.

The End
