Now I have learned something new. I did know that there was hardly a difference between a large amount of chrysler and vw 4 cyl. cranks, but did not know that a ford obdII management system was applicable. Cool! Glad it's workin out. On a side note with my personal opinion, I would prefer to go with something like Tec3(don't like the $2k tag) or Digifant when I put the lysholm on. I would like to keep as much OEM as possible, but I would also like to unleash the most amount of hp/tq possible. What are your thoughts? My plan is to run a 95.5 crank, with 83.5 or 84.5 pistons and the lysholm at 22psi. I was planning on running the digi off a G60 and a custom GIAC chip for the increased displacement and boost. Lysholm 16v's are sweet!
Actually the Ford system I put on was OBDI. It was from a 86 Merkur XR4TI. Reason for doing it is back in the 90s, standalones cost a fortune. Prices of them have either fallen, or for the same amount of money you get alot more. On the other hand, I am about to turbo my 93 Mustang 4 cylinder, and I have seriously considered swapping a late model Ranger 4 cylinder OBDII ECU in the car just to be different.
Personally Id go somewhere in the middle of the road between the Digifant and the Tec. As for your crank choice and all, I cant remember off the top of my head what the stock bore sizes are and strokes, but Id say just keep it simple and work on making the forced induction part as best it can be. Im a big fan of using whatever you happen to have for a crank and rods, even pistons if you can use them. Getting into different cranks and stuff ends up costing alot of money for minimal gain...
If you already got a 16V, Id contact a piston company about getting some slightly lower comp pistons for it. If you do the work yourself and design your own turbo piston, you can call a company that doesnt necessarily cater to the VW market and get em for less. Wiseco, JE, etc usually will make a piston for 75-80 each. Id then just reuse the rods and crank you got.
22psi? Damn, I didnt know lysholms could go that high. Im not much of blower guy, I've always been into turbos. Cheap, and get the job done extremely well. Rado Digifant is a good low cost injection system that works really well, I wont knock it. If you got an 8V they are great to get a turbo or charger on your car and not blow it up and not run you poor. But on the other hand, Im just havent gotten that great feeling from the VW chippers out there which makes a difference if you are wanting to make some really serious power. Maybe when one pounds out 500hp on a 4 cylinder with a chipped ECU I might change my tune. If the car is OBDI, and I was considering a decent amount of mods, I would just bite the bullet and go standalone. If the car is OBDII I am a little more hestitant to go standalone since the ECUs control more and more of the cars operation as time goes on. Something like my Golf I would chip, but I dont plan on a turbo any lifetime soon with the car, I like it running

Like I mentioned, there is some room between the Digi and a Tec. I have really grown to like the Haltechs. Im actually selling the one off my GTI for $650 so I can fund one of the current projects and in the future upgrade to one of their new ones..
