Timing and Knock Sound
Ok this is going to be a real long post but here goes the problem. I put on a new a/c belt the other day, it broke off while driving and with it knocked off the alternator belt which wrapped its way around the bottom pulley, making the car die out. It wouldnt start up after that, so i towed it to a shop and they told me it's timing was off. After the timing was set (it was off 14 teeth on intake side and 12 on exhaust side) and a new alt. belt was put on, it ran nice but the belt squeaked when turned on and it sounded as if the bottom end was making a clicking kind of sound on acceleration. Last night, which was the day after I got the car out of the shop, the car starts losing charge, I push start it and after a couple tries it started up but the belt would not stop squeaking. After a little bit of driving it completely lost charge very suddenly and it wouldnt come on. After I got a jump from a passerby it started but the belt squeaked horribly loud and there was a loud knocking sound coming from where the cam gears were. I started it up this morning and same sound but white smoke was coming out of the oil cap when removed.
What could this be? At first I thought it was the timing belt tensioners but it isnt that they are tight and maybe the timing jumped again? Someone please help!
