The key in the setup in the pic is the radiator fan. You don't need ANY air through the bumper directed towards the radiator if you don't mind having the e-fans on all the time.

Also Dan, your proposed setup is flawed because the intercooler would be blasted with 200*+ air from the radiator. With the e-fans on in my brother's traditional setup, we can get the IC temp down to ambient. In the winter, that's pretty low. One of the neatest setups I've seen is one of the late model WRC WRX rally cars.

The pic posted above needs a lot more ducting going on, plus the hood needs to be better than some hack job. Unless they have a man-sized top vent, it looks like most of the air will bypass both the IC and rad, and go right out the bottom of the car. Also note that it's basically impossible to run AC with a V-mount.

To relate this to the Skyline front'd S14 thread, the additional length of the Skyline front would make packaging a V-mount a lot easier. Just looking at that pic above, he almost didn't need to cut anything.
