Default 5/6sp MT that bolts to a BOP bolt pattern?

Ever since i was scouting out a potential Trans Am back in 1996, i ALWAYS wanted to have a stick shift. but, i settled for the slushbox version because it was the cleanest, low mileage, least abused and best priced example of a 79 Trans Am 6.6L i could find. so, thats what i bought, and thats what i have. during the early years, i wanted to do mods to make it quicker which were simple bolt-on solutions. My wiring skills and fabrication skills were in their infancy. almost 10 years later, ive come to the realization that there really isnt anything to be afraid of when it comes to working on these cars.

so, now that i think about it more and more, i want to put a 5 or 6sp into my TA so i can have more fun with shifting gears... not to mention, an Overdrive that my TH350 doesnt currently have. I can retrofit the pedal set and linkages and such from the MT 2G F-bodies, so im lucky on that part.

im just wondering if anyone knows off hand if there are any 5sp or 6sp trannies out there that use the same bolt pattern as the Buick/Olds/Pontiac engines. Someone said the T56 shares the same bolt pattern and will fit up to my Olds 403, but i dont know how true this is.

does anyone have any info on this stuffs or even a 2G Firebird-specific forum? im already on CamaroZ28.com, but i think this is too Pontiac-specific for them to be of any help.

EDIT: i kept digging around and found this site;
http://h-body.org/library/hbodyfaq/hbodyfaq-10.html
the T56 from the 4th gen F-body is said to fit the 3.8 Series I block and other BOP V8's. now i just have to find a 4th gen parts car to steal all the stuff out of. i wish running clutch hydraulics was as easy as double-flare tubing but apparantly the T56 cluth stuffs are not the same. now i have to figure out what im gonna do about a Oldsmobile flywheel, clutch and pilot bearing. this is gonna be fun!
