My qusetion is will the forged flat top pistons with valve reliefs be the best way to go with this setup?

With those parts don't just get the machine machining done. Go full out race prep on the block. Make sure it get totally stress relieved. Those parts are really nice to have, but you're polishing a turd when dealing with a stock block no matter how much money you throw at it. Better make sure your tune is up to par, also.

What are your power goals with the car? What kind of driving will it see? How often? Stock stroke? Srtoker? You can use box stock Twisted Wedge heads on a stock shortblock. You have to clay the pistons if you're going to be .226 or over in duration to ensure whether or not your cam will clear. Power band will not solely depend on which cam and heads you're using, but intake as well. If you want most of the power down low a good aftermarket street intake (or dual plane if you're carbed) will do. Race intakes where they make power well above your rev limiter, like the Victor series or Track Heat intakes, will take away from your low end.
