Ill start by saying that I love my Talon and would not give it up for any other near its class. It is Fast handles well looks good and can be upgraded in any department to a level that is acceptable to you. It has a the luxuries youd expect all in a quick and nimble sports car package. 13 second 1/4 mile performance can be had for minimal investment (under $1000) and basic suspension mads make it a car worthy of competition in autoX events. It does just about everything very well.
Now the cons.. I have HEARD of people having multiple problems with their DSMs but I will focus on the 1st gens since thats what you are interested in. #1 problem all AWD DSMs have is a leaky transfer case. Good news is there is a recall on it and it should be repaired under that recall forever as long as the dealer doesnt think any mods you might have done caused the problem. Next problem is that there are some electrical gremlins with these cars as mileage increases. You can start to have problems with sensors and ignition components as well as the leaky capacitor ECU problem. The ECU is an EASY fix as long as you dont let it get out of hand. I replaced my caps as soon as I got my car and have never had a problem. I have also never had a problem with my electrical system besides a loose battery terminal.

All in all I think it is a great car. I couldnt be more happy with it. If you want power everything horse power traction and handling... its hard to beat.
