Well, looks like it may have been the remote. Took the deck out and upon first inspection everything looked OK. As I was about to let out a "what the fu.." the remote line from the amp fell out of the crimp. Turns out it was real lose. Restripped and recrimped, and so far so good. I haven't driven anywhere, but appears to be better already.
