I see alot of people here post that their tranny is grinding here and they think it is the just the synchro's. I just wanted to show what is actually doing it and what should be replaced when fixing it the right way. This is not a how to fix a grind this is just showing you what is causing the grind.
First off this is what a syncro looks like and it should be replaced when fixing a grind.
This is what a gear looks like notice the little dog teeth on the gear if they are rounded off and not pointed the gear will need to be replaced.
another shot of the gear
This is one of the main parts causing your tranny to grind this is a synchro sleeve. Notice in this picture how the teeth inside the sleeve are eaten away and not pointed at all this was causing a major 3rd gear grind in a integra ls trannsmision.
This is the synchro hub which fits inside the synchro sleeve. This is the same one that came outta that integra ls tranny that was grinding 3rd notice how its scared up pretty bad.
This is how the synchro hub fits inside of the synchro sleeve. When installing a synchro hub inside a synchro sleeve their will be 3 sets of longer teeth on the sleeve and 3 sets of deeper grooves in the hub u must align it so the longer teeth go in the deeper grooves. Also when buying a synchro sleeve and hub you will usually only be allowed to buy the whole synchro sleeve kit which will include the synchro hub, sycnhro sleeve, and the 2 synchros that go with it.
I hope this was an informative thread if you have any additional info please post.
thanks chris
