I don't know what got you all in a tissy, but i think you misinterpreted what i was saying. When you try and compare the 4g against other engines then i kind of agree. But who is to say that the new eclipse would be getting the 4g if in fact it came from the factory with a turbo?

So when does the 4g begin giving up the ghost? When is enough enough? If you were to do nothing to the 4g but add fuel support, larger turbo, freeing up the flow, and crank up the boost; how much could one get out of the 4 banger before having to upgrade the internals? I know its a great engine, but it too has its limits and is not the god of all motors. Lets just say that if you plan on going over 400hp with the 4g63 then you would need to consider internal upgrades for reliablity reasons. I think that's a fair assumption. Sure it could put out 500+, but not for very long. Now lets consider the mivec v-6 coming in at 260hp/and goobs more tq than the inline 4 with 260. Its is generally a safe assumption that one can add at least 100hp to an imports base factory engine without seriously compromizing reliablity on engines that come with at least 200hp or more. (i know you may think i'm crazy for saying that, but this is a generality i have seen prove itself over and over again) So with slapping a turbo kit on the v-6 you now have comperable number to a 4g with a decent amount of work in it. But the v-6 will have a bigger and fatter tq curve and the power will come on sooner. And who is to say that the new v-6 isn't up to the task of coming alive with mods? Either way you slice it once you get upwords of 400hp range if you care anything at all about reliablity you will need to reinforce the internals.
I believe your assumption that factory turbo cars are more reliable is an ideal that is not neccessarely true. The mitsu line is perfect evidence of that. How many 4g's are constantely breaking down just in this forum alone? Sure if you through enough money at them and work on them yourself then you may achieve short greatness with it, but you will never see a long lasting reliable factory turbo'd car if you continually mod it.

Call me ignorant if you must, but i don't think there would be anything wrong with getting an engine that pound for pound, or dollar for dollar, produces more hp and tq than the aged 4g63. Progression is never ending.
