$500 - good intake
$400 - good injectors
$200 - throttle body
$400 - Mass air meter
..thats ballpark. My point is, its not that far off through say mid 10s, at which point you could probably save some $ with carb. There are other perks to EFI as well, like the laptop tune that you mentioned. I remember getting a distributor "curved" back in the day - talk about an inexact science! Same thing for fuel - jets? It just seems like in the end, because of the tunability, EFI would be nicer.
All that said - you can go faster for less money overall with carb, but I feel that only really is true when your dipping down into the 9 second zone.
LoL, why are you trying to convince me that efi is better than a carb setup, you're preaching to the quire. I was only making the point that it's much cheaper to run a carb over efi. I'd much rather have a efi setup. My prices include the high and low end. How are they inflated prices if my low numbers are lower than the numbers you put up? Cheap end you're gonna spend $700 on a carb and intake and $1500 for efi using your numbers. Now if you want to go really fast (7's, 8's, 9's) then the higher numbers I quoted are gonna come into play. You can make over 1000 hp with a turbo, Vic Jr, and blow through carb and spend about $1200 on the carb and intake. Now if you want to make over 1000 hp with efi you're gonna have to spend at least double that. So either way you look at it, cheap setup or expensive setup, you're gonna spend at least double for an efi setup over a carb setup.
