You are wrong about most OEMs being batch. Most are them *are* sequential or the very old ones are atleast bank/semi-seq (unless we are talking about REALLY old cars). And it does have its advantages and they are indisputably proven. Weather you need to have it or not is up to you. How much is it worth to you $ wise, then decide if you need it.
And I agree fixing unequal airflow via cylinder trim is a bandaid, and if you build the motor from the ground there is no excuse for it.
