The basic MS doesn't have much flexibility, but there are hardware and software add-ons that make it quite a versatile units. Marksaccord had an MS on his Corolla that used Ford EDIS coil packs and ignition controls. That whole setup with all parts was less than $250. There are additional hacks for extra inputs and outputs. Its open source so there are TONS of small projects to do various things.
No knock sensor? If you are worried about a knock sensor, and think it will help the life of your motor, you don't need a programmable system.
