Actually the best way to go is the old Lincoln Mark VIII iron block with the Cobra crank forged internals and whatnot with Cobra heads intake and goodies. Good luck on finding that block though. This is the same setup that the new 03 Cobra will use. From what I have noticed some of the Mark VIII blocks early on were iron while the later models were aluminum. Strange.

Depends on who you ask and who is behind the wheel. It seems that Ford got the IRS right for 01 and you can actually launch the Cobras with some vigor. It was a night and day difference between my moms 99 (back before we switched it to a solid axle) IRS and my dads 01 IRS.

Which years are you talking about Alan? Current models or what? Most 99-01 GTs will hang with or beat 96-98 (and most 99) Cobras. That is not set in stone but you get the idea.
