What differences are there between the two mod motors other than the heads (and are they interchangable)? How much more potential is sitting in a 96-98 cobra than gt?

the 2v is a four bolt main iron block the 4v is a six bolt main aluminum block and has a forged crank. for drag racing the iron is the way as far as heads yes they are interchangable but you have to also swap the intake.

the best steup for drag is a 2v blcok with the 4v crank and heads wise it is just how much money you have...

id get a 2v and build the bottom end and be good to go.....

oh yeah .... the 4v crank uses a eight bolt flywheel and the 2v crank uses a six bolt....

How would a gt with a 100 shot compare to a cobra with the same 100 shot? Both stock the gt is almost a second behind the cobra right?

Actually the best way to go is the old Lincoln Mark VIII iron block with the Cobra crank forged internals and whatnot with Cobra heads intake and goodies. Good luck on finding that block though. This is the same setup that the new 03 Cobra will use. From what I have noticed some of the Mark VIII blocks early on were iron while the later models were aluminum. Strange.

Depends on who you ask and who is behind the wheel. It seems that Ford got the IRS right for 01 and you can actually launch the Cobras with some vigor. It was a night and day difference between my moms 99 (back before we switched it to a solid axle) IRS and my dads 01 IRS.

Which years are you talking about Alan? Current models or what? Most 99-01 GTs will hang with or beat 96-98 (and most 99) Cobras. That is not set in stone but you get the idea.

mid to low 12s from the cobra vs. high 12s from the gt.
it also depends on what yr. blocks and heads we are talking about because the 99+ gts are pretty damn stout and will run the same times if not better then the cobra.

I didnt know that the 99-01 gts were as quick as the 96-98 cobras. I love the 99-up body style and the both the 98 cobra and 00gt are in the same 15k-20k price range. And I sure wouldnt mind having a warranty on it...

See sig. Stock longblock w/ bolt-ons. Race weight is 3550 w/ driver. 96-98 4v heads are better than 99+ heads when it comes to forced induction(they have more potential when it comes to porting) But for n/a cars you cant beat the tumble port heads on the 99+ cobras. Plus I think the 96-98s had a more aggresive cam duration/lift than the 99+s.

As far as the 99+Gts there are less than a handfull of cars in the 12s(n/a). None in the 11s without a power adder. Yes they are quick but the 4v will pull on the high end since they both have the same torque rating but the cobra having more hp. I would get the 4v its fun leaving the line at 7000rpms!

Its funny how those with the 2v recommend the 2v and those with the 4v recommend the 4v.
