Boost drop is not a negative result caused by the size of an intercooler, it is an unavoidable result that occurs when you cool air thus making more of it fit into the same physical space. If a water to air cooler is cooling charge air better than the air to air cooller, there would be more boost drop. Its irrelevent in this argument, although I think the aerodynamic argument is solid.
