Default block-off EGR on california emissions 1G?

well... i just noticed that my 92 GST is a california emissions car, not a federal emissions. so its got a gay ass EGR sensor w/ 3 nipples and a gas flow heat sensor in it. i made a block off plate to sandwich between the EGR and the manifold. so, the car sputtered to life last night but the check engine light came on. and im willing to bet that its due to the block off plate between the EGR and the manifold. i think the ECU is seeing that the motor has been running for at least 30 seconds and has seen virtually no change in the Exhaust Gas Temp (variable resistance). so im suspecting this is my problem. anyone know how to get around this EGR thing.

since its a variable resistance, and the 2 wire plug giong to the EGR is power and ground, i SHOULD be able to disconnect the plug and solder on a resistor from Radio Shack to simulate a constant resistance to make the ECU think that the EGR is heated up all the time. any know what impedence rating the resistor needs to be to simulate the heated exhaust gas passing thru the EGR valve?
