Why do you keep saying tune it with your laptop? Look at the SMC, no laptop required or even able to use with. You tune it with a flat head screw drive or something. 
i guess you have never tuned with a palm or laptop, the hotsync wire plugs into the diagnostic port and by using the tuning program i have on my lap top i can tell exaclty whats going on in the car in complete real time. Then tune the smc accordingly
