both of those are great ideas for auto-x. your not going to need a vtec egine because you wont be going to vtec alot, and both those engine are know for torque, which is what you're looking for.
last autox i went to with the hatch i was able to get around a good 2/3 of the course in vtec in 2nd... *shrug*
