Thumbs up Your opinoins...

Well, within the next 2 months I am going to be purchasing a new bike. This will be my first street bike. I have rode motorcross since I was about 10 as well as four wheelers and a few street bikes. I have been talking to a few people I know and they say not to go with a 600cc. I wll be buying a brand new bike and they say that I will grow out of it to fast comming from my background. So I started to look at the GSX-R750. Seems like a really nice bike but if I am going to spend the money I figure why not go for the 1000cc bikes. I have very good self control when it comes to pushing the limits of myself and machine. My question for everyone here who rides: What is your personal opinion on a good bike to start out with comming from a motorcross background? I am looking for something that handles and has power. This will not be a go straight type of deal I want something I can take on the twistes and have some real fun and not grow out of too fast. Let me know what you think.
