As far as street racing goes, there's really no argument against the penalties getting harsher. People drive like retards more than ever and it endangers other people's lives. The penalties don't even seem so stiff really besides the impounding, since there are always ways to get your license back for school/work and shit.
Profiling on the other hand is a different story. I personally haven't gotten a ticket for my exhaust on my wrx, but i know several people who get exhaust tickets all the time and they aren't domestics. It's odd how you can hear modified v8's barely holding idle sounding rediculously mean and cops don't care, or a stock harley busting up your eardrums and they bat an eye, but when a 4-cyl has exhaust they always question pulling them over. Kinda lame if you ask me, i'll continue to cross my fingers.
