I tell you what. the way I got good was by driving, by myself, on rainy evenings in industrial parks.

We would call them "Casual Drift Evenings"

Evenings where it had rained all afternoon, and it was barely drizzling outside. Evenings where everyone had gone home, there was no traffic on the roads, and it was a bit chilly outside. Evenings where industrial parks, and areas of business were dead at night so you could slide around in their parkways, streets, crossroads, and loading areas.

That was how I really got my feet wet with drifting. literally. The rain is the best place to start. If you're just starting out, I don't suggest going out unless its soaking wet outside. There is little to no tire wear, little to no tire noise, no tire smoke, the cars need such less power to break loose you can get out there with a bone stock 240sx and combo until the cows come home so long that there's a little water between your tires and the pavement.

Don't go out in groups of more than three cars. Don't bring spectators. Don't set up cameras. Don't make it a show. Make it simply a practice session. Drive around, find a nice parking lot, hit it up two or three times, four if you dont' spin once, and move on.

Don't linger, don't attract attention. Don't call friends , don't meet up with people, nothing like that. Just concentrate on yourself, concentrate on keeping the car sideways, and please, above all, concentrate on not getting into any kind of trobule be it wrecking, breaking your car down, trespassing, or anything else like that.

We are working towards an equivalent of a DoW down here, but it will take a little bit longer. Look to Mid to late May being the next major drift event int he Tampa bay area. Till then Im' gonna get used to the drive to Miami
