Answers:

1) If the car is designed properly, and you maintain it properly, then driving it hard will not kill it that much. That said, abuse will kill any car. Don't run to redline everytime you hit the gas pedal and the car will be there when you need it.

2) Losing compression can take place from MANY factors. The main reasons for slow loss of compression would be worn rings which just happens over time. It's called engine wear. Again, maintain your car properly and you will help it last longer.

If you are concerned about your compression, go get it checked.
