Since when do you need to be into drifting to own a 240? Just because many people use it for that purpose doesn't mean thats all its good for, just as people incorporate their WRX's as rally cars but how many people on this forum actually rally? If your looking to go into autocross the 240 is a great platform. Its not good when people that dont even own your car know more about it then yourself, seriously.

if you answered yes to ether of these (or both) please pipe down cuz i already stated that im new to this especially the whole 240 buzz. i owned a jeep as my first car and thats all i know at this point. thats why im asking questions, to learn more about my car and any other cars i may be interested in.

 

Dude chill, chomedrifter is simply trying to help you out with what you already have. You obviously don't know much about Subaru's and are just looking for a change. Everyone is telling you to do your research before getting into a cheap Subaru and that is the BEST advice any of us can give you. I'm sure I'm not the only one here to understand just how different these cars are.

Good luck with your search, but if I were you I'd stick with the 240 and save up some money to get a decent running newer Subaru. You most likely aren't going to find a good one for the price your in.

 

ok well i understand that he is trying to help and ive already said that i dont know much but i also noted that ive been studying alot. i really want to know more about these cars and i would like to start a nice project. the 240 is great but its just not for me. there are a lot more people that would be able to do something nice with it but they have time, money, and more knowledge.

Basically, by buying an older cheaper vehicle, i will get alot more out of it than just puttin basic bolt-on mods on the 240. i will be forced to build it as i fix it. see where im coming from?? Im majoring in mechanical engineering so i need to start learning about more than how to fit 35" tires under a jeep how to weld the beastliest bumpers lol

 

I built an Sr powered 240 from a shell and switched to a wrx. Only if you feel comfortable completely tearing down a normal car should you switch to a backwards, ass-in-9, retarded boxer motor. No offense to anyone here who thinks they are easy to work on, just stating my opinion. I think they are the most GOD AWFUL designs ever, in which every engineer at subaru is trying to piss me off.
Symetrical design < ease to work on
Go make a friend with a wrx. Work on their car and try not to blow your brain out all over the hood, which can open 90 degrees like a honda but you have to take out the hood prop and maybe damage it in the process.

 

thats why i kinda like the justys. a 1.3L 3 cyl. its so simple that even I could figure it out. and for a a couple hundred bucks, you cant beat that. i'll have to get used to it at first but it'll pick up eventually lol

Just as stated before, others and myself have only been trying to help you. I am trying to save you into doing something you will regret. The 240 is an awesome car, and for something of its price range, I don't think anything compares to it. I would buy some coilovers for it before sending it off. In my opinion thats when the car really transforms.

I just built my KA-T for $1100 and thats only that much because I opted for a rom tune instead of the cheap SAFC way. Meaning that parts for a whole turbo kit were only $500, which most were new. And if you were looking for speed, I can spank STOCK WRX's now and a whole lot more fun to drive.

Also if your looking into mechanical engineering, it would be best to learn on the 2.4l inline-4 than the 1.3l 3 cylinder of the Justy. Plus, you already have the 240.

EDIT: Also my advice is no way biased from owning a 240, because I also have an 07 WRX in my household. They are both awesome cars and polar opposites, but the car your looking to get into is nothing like a WRX. lol

 

I wish i had a car i didn't care about. That's why s13s kick so much ass. Seriously, being original is not worth the hassle if its your only means of transportation.

 

ok well i'll work with the 240 for a while to see how it does. another factor was that i was gettin into soooo much trouble in it lol. 2.5 yrs in my jeep that i drove like a maniac without ever being breathed on by a cop. 1 month in my 240, pulled over 3 times, 2 tix( exhaust, 4th street). basically i was pissed so i wanted somethin else. but im cooling down now and have regained my thinking.
