sorry, i dont know shit about the WRX engine codes, is this a stock 02-03 bottom end? if not, does it bolt directly into a 02/03 without any modification?

my wrx has been sitting for 1.5 years, i need a short block that bolts in with no mods (after i do headgasket/studs of course)

EJ205 = 2.0L turbo WRX engine used in all 1999 to current WRX models
EJ207 = 2.0L turbo WRX STi engine used in all 1999 to current (Jdm) STi models
EJ255 = 2.5L turbo engine used in US Forester XT & Legacy 2.5L turbo models (+ some overseas)
EJ257 = 2.5L turbo engine used in US Impreza STi models

Jeff's sig says his car was a 02 and iirc it was a bugeye so yes it should fit. He's the post where he swapped in the new motor:

Sending you a pm with Jeff's handle on www.nasioc.com. Forgot he was no longer on here. Great guy, meticulous and VERY knowledgeable owner.

Thanks B

Yes, direct swap bolt-for-bolt for any 2002 or 2003. Mark, there are (as always) going to be a few o-rings and gaskets to replace as well for a shortblock swap. The water pump gasket, the water pipe o-rings on the top of the block (2), the o-ring that is part of the oil cooler assembly... Just don't want you to think it's going to be 2 headgaskets and some head bolts. Shouldn't be more than ~$70 for the stuff I mentioned. Best to have a shop taking care of all of that if you're not doing the work yourself.

Well, all I can tell you is what I would be replacing gasket/o-ring-wise if it were me buying a used shortblock. I do not have the part numbers anymore.

SET (2), exhaust manifold to head gaskets
SET (2), intake manifold to TGV housing gaskets
SET (2), TGV housings to head gaskets
SET (2), main head gaskets
2 o-rings where the water pipe connects to the top of the block
1 o-ring in the oil cooler assembly
1 gasket for the water pump which you will be swapping over
Permatex "Ultra Black" gasket maker
Permatex "Red" gasket maker
Both red and blue thread locker
ETC ETC ETC (see thread below!)

Before any of that, however, I recommend getting your hands on the Factory Service Manuals of relevance. There are CDs on eBay. There are also online copies floating around here and there. Torque specs and one or more torque wrenches ranging from 12 in-lbs to 95 ft-lbs (almost never found in ONE wrench) are an absolute must. It is an aluminum block and it's not at all difficult to strip threads by going 1 full turn too far.

In addition to that, you will absolutely want to read the following thread at NASIOC.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=721709

That's about all I can offer. My phone number is 727-417-6954.

Listen, don't make me dump my drink on you.

Completely random story I was thinking of a few minutes ago, totally unrelated to anything at all that might be amusing and I couldn't care less about telling it: Once, when I was around 14, I was in the back seat of my Mom's Subaru on the way home from some trip we had gone on. The sun was setting and I was reading a Thrasher skateboarding magazine. My Mom told me to put it away because reading in poor light was going to damage my eyes (a total myth that has been disproven, BTW). I kind of ignored her or said "I will" or some crap. A mile or two down the road, she told me again. I protested that I could see fine, that it wasn't even dark. She proceeded to immediately pull the car off the interstate, grab my Thrasher, and throw it out the driver side window onto the shoulder. Pissed off, and kind of speechless for a bit, I finally said, "You owe me $3!" She laughed at me.

The end.

The end.
To quote two totally different characters (which would seem to relate to your old posts and this one) from an infamous black and white film that debuted about 10 - 11 years ago.

Old Jeff's posts: "That's beautiful man."

New *ungrateful* Jeff's post: "That's f*ck*d up man."

Skerlnik!
