Default WTB: LSD diff

I am in need of a LSD rear. Mine isn't locking up. I have a S14 6 bolt vlsd currently and would like one that I can just bolt right in with out modifying anything.

Tom, do a search on Zilvia about shimming the VLSD. Supposedly, it makes the VLSD lock harder. I do not have any experience with VLSDs, just going off some reading on the subject. I personally suggest finding an HLSD.

I will look into the shimming. I would love to find a helicoil diff. They seem to be very rare.

Helical* and they aren't rare, just tend to be expensive. $500 w/ correct shafts on eBay all day. Then you need to have ring gears swapped and it setup/shimmed correctly in the diff. I love mine, can def sense a change in the car around corners.

Stupid autocorrect.
Why do you need to swap ring gears?

Most of the time they don't come with a ring gear attached to the diff.

Typically, ring and pinion gears are a "mated" pair and should never be mix matched.

When you buy new gears, they always come as s set.

I wasn't aware you don't typically get the ring and pinion with it.
I personally will be trying to find one with the S15 ring and pinion as I would rather have the 3.6 rear gear.

i really think that your best option is to just reshim the vlsd to make it tighter unless you really do want to change ratios and spend quite a bit more money.

a reshim of the vlsd shouldn't involve a carrier reshim and resetting of backlash like a new lsd installation would require since the shims to tighten the vlsd are inside the carrier and do not effect the overall carrier width.

Ill look into that. I just would hate to attempt this reshim and it not really be any better.
Yes I would really like to have the 3.6 rear gear over the 4.1. But it's not super important at this time.
Having a LSD that actually works is more important.
