Default 92 Talon AWD Turbo 5spd

Posting this for a buddy.

1992 Talon 5spd 6/4 combo. odometer has 120ishK, maybe 30min on a basic rebuild(stock pistons, new rings/bearings, rebuilt head) due to the ever famous valves through the pistons by the previous owner. The interior is grey cloth and is in decent shape, minus the headliner which will need to be replaced/reglued up. No sterero or speakers. Exterior is red and is in decent shape for its age. Has a few knicks and scratches, but nothing big, paint is in decent shape save for the clear coat pealing on the back bumper and spoiler..however no rust. Wheels are 2g swirlies and the tires are pretty much worn. The only mods to the car are a K&N cone filter, modified stock exhaust(catless and borla muffler), and a 2g exhaust manifold. Just before I purchased it it had the following replaced: radiator, fuel pump, and both cv axles. The ecu has zero signs of leakage. In addition to the rebuild stuff(gaskets, tbelt, etc) I also put on a new slave cylinder, fuel filter, new injector o-ring kit, new battery, and swapped out the xfercase and tranny fluid with synchromesh. The only problem with the car is the turbo is seized. I'm guessing that probably a piece of the valve is stuck in there...had planned on throwing it in the trash and just putting on a new 16g my buddy had so never bothered to investigate it too much. However it idles and drives fine otherwise, just doesn't build boost. My original plans where to rebuild it and turn it into an autocross car, but I recently moved and now have nowhere to store the car, not to mention I don't have the time to work on it anymore. As it sits I'm looking to get $1700/obo. For $2200/obo the following aftermarket parts go with it: Apexi N-1 TURBO back exhaust(yes DP and full exhaust), HKS EVC IV ebc, Hard UICP, 2g tb, 30/30 ultralite boost gauge, new rear koni yellows, new morse 2g big brake upgrade(calipers, brackets, and pads), heck I'll even throw in the car cover it has on it. Please contact me via email, as my cell is a business phone.

If the turbo seized because of a piece of a valve, it either would have been visible when the turbo was removed during the engine rebuild (which is probaby not the case, as the description would have said explicitly that the turbo has a piece of valve stuck (somehow) on one of the wheels instead of, "I'm guessing [this is the case].") or it was a piece that got in the oil, in which case it was a jackass move to put the turbo back on the car, as it would have broken metal fragments in the oil lines and center cartridge.
Perhaps I'm missing something, though.

sorry anthrax you are incorrect...had a chance to pull the turbo off yesterday while sitting around for 6hrs while sinister told me he was right down the road and almost here to pick up the car(big thumbs up for ya matt)...was indeed a piece of the valve seized in the exhaust wheel. I left the o2 housing on when I pulled the turbo so I guess it was hiding somewhere in there...On your theory Im not sure how pieces of metal would get from the oil pan to the turbo cartridge, as they'd have to pass through the oil filter....but then again with dsms anything is possible...none the less car is still for sale, everything is ready to go including now a brand new $80 titanium battery purchased yesterday.

So, I was correct, not incorrect. I said the valve shrapnel would be visible when the turbo was removed, but that that probably was not the case because you would have said that it was definitely pieces of valve that seized the turbo and not that you guess it was pieces of valve. And, that's what happened - the valve pieces were not visible when you removed the turbo and that's why you guessed.

The other possibility, based on what you wrote, was that the shaft seized because of fragments in the center cartridge (because, if you can't see what seized the turbo outside of the center cartridge then your implying that it was seized within the center cartridge). Therefore, those pieces would still be present in the center cartridge when you bolted the old turbo on the freshly rebuilt motor.

Sorry about the clutter.

I never called cause I was a little dissapointed I drove up all the way up there and rented a trailer for a car that was said to be in perfect running condition besides a siezed turbo, yet the inside was all moldy, there was a bunch of crusty shit in the trunk, and there was 1 of the 2 radiator fans missing and all kinds of other shit. Not to mention the fact you had some messed up crappy donut on the rear driver side of the car. Good luck with the sale..... Not worth 2200 even with the parts.....

if it means anything, the driver side fan is for the ac and not needed unless you have ac....but the spare tire on the back is not good at all, hope it hasnt been driven alot on that.
