FS: 1993 Mazda RX-7 Shell FD3S
Um..im not bashing your price...its not that bad actually
but I hate when people SAY just buy a clip and it will cost xxx amount.
FAILURE.
When it comes to these cars please add 1500 dollars to what ever your total price is. Lets not include the value of your own labor, will the motor you buy be healthy or will the tranny suck. Lines, oil, coolant, plugs, missing parts and what was ever severed in removal of the motor. Shipping of said parts. Like 500 for a clip or 350-400 for a long block. You might as well buy a running FD at this point.
Like I said for the condition of your car..its a decent price. but your math is way off and you know it.

But let's look at some new details.
First off I've dropped the price to $5,500 on the shell. That takes $1,300 off the top.
Second, Hinson has dropped their price on the LSX swap so I'll say you could sell the kit for $800 instead of $1,200. That puts $400 back on the top.
Third, this clip HERE! has been listed five times now and has been reduced to $3,499.00 That takes another $300 off the top. They are in NJ and quoted me $350 for shipping. You could probably get them to sell it to you for $3,499 shipped at this point.
Fourth, the clip is in great shape, it comes with a cluster to verify mileage (less than 60,000 miles I might add) and you would have a RHD swap to sell after changing everything over.
Your argument about missing parts and severed parts from the engine removal is null and void because you would be the one removing the engine. What are you worried about on the tranny? The weak part of the drivetrain in these cars is the rear end. NOT the tranny.
The seller told me that they would give a 30 day warranty from the time of install. NOT from the time or purchase. Granted that really doesn't mean much on a rotary but you could realistically hook up a 5 gallon gas can to the clip and start the engine.
So lets say that after all this you have the front clip laying around. I'm sure you could get $500 for the sheet metal off of the front of the car but let's say you give it away for $300. You still have the RHD unibody to sell. Let's say you gave that away for $300 as well.
Then let's give you some ridiculous amount of money for oil, coolant, plugs, whatever. We'll just go with $300 since it seems to be popular.
It's going to break down like this.
FD Shell: $5,500
FD Clip: $3,500
Misc: $300
Total: $9,300
Hinson Kit: $800
Sheet Metal: $300
RHD Shell: $300
Total: $1,400
Bottom Line: $7,900
$7,900 for a freshly painted, 5-speed swapped, low mileage motor FD3S. Sounds like a hell of a bargain to me. Even if you want to throw in another $1,200 for Labor or whatever else it still would only be a $9,100 car.
These cars sell for $12,000 and much much higher all the time. This is your chance to get one for much less. As of this posting the car is already on eBay with a no reserve auction and unless someone snatches it up now it is going to sell on eBay for whatever it gets bidded to.
