technicaly the car is or was never registered so you should get a hold of the guy and see if he can get a duplicate tittle and then re-sign it over back to you again..

well that's the best i can tell you. but you should be able to take it to theDMV and they will explain what you need to do there. did you even get a Bill-of-sale?

Run a vin check and it will tell you the owners name, then search myspace, facebook, google and try to get in contact with that person.
