Well, it "was" for sale. The guy finally owned up to bailing on me... This is the email I got from him this morning:

Well in all fairness, he never took any of my money... So I guess it wasn't that big of a deal. But I had agreed to buy it from him

I had a confirmed price w/the guy and was not able to go and pickup the car yet (no trailer). Took pics, and posted the stuff for sale. I hadn't given him the cash for it yet, was just waiting til I got a trailer there to haul everything out.
I took a risk by not giving him the money and having the chance of him selling it out from under me; but I also felt that it was a risk worth taking if he kept his end of the bargain.
No harm, no foul. Next time I'll just make sure I get the money to the person while I'm trying to arrange for towing/etc.
