P-86 Mustang
Someone on another forum asked about dimensions:
Here you go. A few notes though and keep in mind this is on a 93. I'm not sure how the other years have their bumper supports but it doesn't really matter too much, you would just have to re-adjust how the 2x6s' bolt to the bumper brackets.
For the front I removed the bumper "struts" and mounted it directly to the frame. For the rear the bumper "struts" are used.
Some of the bolts I used were a bit long, but that's no big deal.
The pivots I made are a bit tall at 30". You might be able to get away with 24" tall. As you can see I have a boat trailer jack on the front which can go pretty high. I had to use an engine hoist to lift the rear to attach the pivots and then had to raise the entire car dolly with a spare tire I had.

Charlie don't surf!
Thanks guys.
Since the rain has kept me in I started researching my next project (yeah I jump all over the place). "Charlie don't surf!".
Thats the famous line from Apocalypse Now, one of the best movies of all time IMO. So what does that have to do with my project? Well I happened to have a surfboard rear view mirror and thought it would be kinda cool to paint it like the 86" Yater Spoon in the movie.
So I started looking for info on the board and found there isn't much out there. In fact I could only find about six or seven pictures of it.
Anyway I finally found some good information from Jimmy Buffett's Honolulu surfing museum where the board is on display. You can check them out here and they have a neat Youtube with all the surfing scenes. As it turns out it really wasn't a Spoon but a standard long board, you'll have read the story on the website.
On to my project. I think this will be one of those things that most people wont notice at first. But it should make a good conversation piece and it definitely goes with the overall theme. I grew up in Hawaii and was assigned to the First Cav, so it makes sense to me anyway.
Next is the tricky part of painting the graphics. More on that after this paint dries....
