the plug holes are too small to fit a socket in where the plug goes.

They're the right plugs guys - how can you fuck up getting a spark plug right? They're a standard NGK plug; the TR6's. They're a 5/8" spark plug. They screw and seat into the head perfectly fine - BY HAND. The problem is not the plugs fitting into the head, nor the plugs being "wrong" - it is in the casting of the head, the design of the head. When the head was made and the metal was cut into to make the hole/seat for the plug - they did not remove enough metal to allow for a spark plug AND SOCKET to fit down into the bowl. Therefore you can only get them hand tight, due to not being able to get the spark plug socket into the head.

Pat - when I talked to you yesterday I told you this. You said to shave the socket down to fit into the head. Now today you're saying it's the wrong plug, and hard to believe?

These heads have been nothing but problems unfortunately. From the valve train, to the fitment of the intake, to the fitment of the headers, to the fitment of the valve covers and now to the fitment of the spark plugs. The heads are going to be sold, and replaced with something worthy of my time and money...

Frankie is looking good!

How much was that distributor hold down? I'm in need of a hold down and bolt.

Alan, hold down was from Gearhead for like $26...

Pat/John, I'm 99.9% sure it's the small plug - the only two plug sizes that I know of are 5/8" plugs and 13/16" plugs... These are the smaller version, 5/8" - so if I got a diff size they'd be the bigger ones (right? - at this point anything is a possibility)...

@ Tommy - ported spark plug holes FTW! Could I list that as a mod for the car in my sig?!

But all in all guys, seriously, I think it's just best to part with the heads and sell them to someone who is willing to machine them/etc. I've had troubles with everything from valve train lineage, to plug fitment. I think someone else can use them - and I'll roll with a more "off the shelf" type setup...

What kind of heads are they? Is it not possible to use a thinner wall socket?

They're ProComp heads - and they're this new style of head; maybe you've heard of 'em... They're for LS1's

JFWY dood - I couldn't resist!

Definitely their is a possibility that I can get a socket shaved down to fit into the hole. But WHY BOTHER? It's like the continuous saga of avoiding the obvious... If it were JUST the issue w/the spark plug - I could see going thru the trouble of shaving a socket to fit the hole... However; it's not!

i wasnt talking about 5/8 or 13/16 i was saying the head of spark plug sticks out farther so you can get a socket on it it wont be as recessed as the ones you have
