So I recieved my other D16A6 bottom end today, thanks to a good friend. I didn't have time to start tearing it apart or anything but on initial assessment that giant hole in #4 indicates the obvious problem. I know most of you would say at that point 'junk it' BUT what a lot miss ia this. The crank still turns and I know all it did was junk that one piston. That leaves 3 rods and one crank that're in better shape than the ones that came out of my original motor.

Also, I never got to post the after pics of the semi cleaned up bay and interior.

Sorry so short. Rush post right before work! TTYL!

Got out in the garage and started takin that motor apart.
Water pump and water pipe on the back removed...

Oil pan off. Looks decent. All the brown is the breakdown of oil you hear about on all the Castrol commercials. It happens. It unavoidable with most oils.

Chunks left of the valve that passed though the piston and the piston top.

Oil pump and pick up tube removed.

And after wrestling with it for a minute there is the beautiful crank! Unharmed except for a small spot where the center main just started to show evidince of going...

After I saw that I got my mic's out and measured the crank. Luckily thaat mar is just on the surface. A good dip and polish and it'll be ready to drop right back in!
Here's the rods. Despite the condition of the #4 the rest are in really good shape!

From here I have to save up some cash for the rod and main bearings, piston rings and gasket set and we should be ready to go. I'll be putting a balance on all the inernal components. I might MIGHT shave a few pounds off the flywheel, not sure yet. I'll prolly end up getting me a Centerforce pressure plate and clutch. I just like the streetability of the Centerforce. Beyond that I won't be doing much else. Godspeed has an O.E. style aluminum radiator I'll be putting back to get. I'm thinkin about some Down*/Bolt Boys hardware but that may take more time. I'll prolly perform a re-loom down the road but no tucking. Maybe some re-routing but I wanna keep it pretty O.E..

Got out today and cleaned the engine bay a little more. Found out the WD-40 trick really does work. So I scrubbed down the tranny since everytime it crossed my mind it made me cringe. Just hated the way it looked down in there.

Wish I'd have had some brushes to get into the tighter spots but we work with what we have.

Did get out and do some work today. Decided to clean out and scrub down the trunk today. It was kinda grody back there.

While I was doing this I figured I'd address some more of the issues with the rear end of the ol' girl. When I got it the trunk didn't close very well. You had to slam it to get it to close. Figured out the bumper was up too high and gave the lid no clearance. So I loosened up the bumper and got it to where the trunk is now really easy to close. I can close it like my hood now. Let it down gently and give a firm push. Love it! I also addressed the issue of the bumper not aligning very well on the passenger side and after some spacers it looks really good now. I'll pop some pics tomorrow. Thought I did but checked the camera and the inside trunk pics was all I got.

Flat tire,
We never lose our interest in cars. I realize that this is an
old thread, but it's a build thread so they get updated over several years.
Do you still have the car? I was wondering about updates. Do you have some
pics for us? What are you working on lately?-Bob
