Default Boost gauge prob

Well for the longest time, my boost gauge would go apeshit above about 17 psi , you could actually hear it, sounded like a bee in a folgers can. *shrugs*, turns out I needed a restrictor in the line to lessen the severity of the intake valves opening and shutting etc, nice boost guages have this built in, mine did not. It used to peak at about 22 psi, now it seemed to have averaged out and peaks at about 20 psi even give or take a pound or two on a cold or warm day

*edit*, before you ask why it peaks at all, my turbo has no wastegate, it makes whatever the engine can muster and sends it all to the intake.

What kind of boost gauge do you have? Don't you think a wastegate would be a good idea?

I made a boost gauge out of a standard air gauge, and a wastegate is uneeded, the exhaust housing is sized fine, just makes for a little bit of lag, I don;t see 20 psi till about 2200 or so, which is 2/3rds of my rev range lmao, yellow line on tach starts at 3400.

You can tell me up and down that a wastegate is un-needed but I will never run a turbo without one. Is it just to save money?

Turbos will take as much boost as you can throw at them.

In the diesel world its not unusual to run both a supercharger and a turbo.

Thank you John, you are 100 percent correct, now if only it was normal practice to come from the factory with a decent boost gauge

Actually it is pretty redneck setup, ganked a PSI gauge from a hospital air pump I got at a flea market for ten bucks cause it had all the fittings I needed. , but it is a very clean setup, fabbed up a bracket and ran the line inside the a-pillar etc, looks pretty slick.
