Default Superchargers

I was just BROWSING prices for my 95 Z superchargers. Cheapest I found was $4,400 with aftercooler(between intake and supercharger to cool air down) Is this even a reasonable price or should I just like get some kind of turbine and bracket and do it myself?

for sc's the kits are the best way to go, as a bracket that is not perfect for your car and the compressor will cause the pulley angle to be off and throw belts. the $4400 sounds about right if its the vortech kit. you may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere on the net so look around alot. if your looking for low boost 7-8 psi and it's for the camaro go for one of the tailpipe turbo's, yes they are not that well proven yet but the theory behind them is sound and the dyno numbers are sound.

Thanks for the link and the info! Thats alot cheaper and sounds more reasonable. Do you think 6 PSI is efficient? I want to run balls to the wall at the drag strip if I ever took it out there (I plan to rebuild and stroke the motor before the super/turbo) U think I should get something int the 8-15 PSI range?

boost is just a term...its airflow that matters...6psi this, 7psi that, its just how much your pressurizing the intake.

if your going to rebuild and stroke the motor then id say,

callies dragonslayer 3.75" crank (if using a blower, get it keyed aswell as the hub)
nice forged 5.7" rods
dished forged .030" over pistons.
melling oil pump
and big cam...that about does it for the bottom end.

how much you lookin to spend, i picked my setup up cheap but took a long time...and IMO aftercoolers are overated with the other alternatives there are to use.

a good reliable setup, with alot of power, is going to cost ya atleast 10k...so have 15 to spend.

i also have to ask, how much do you know about what your wanting to do?

I race cars I know about how much the engine will cost the supercharger/turbo/whatever will be later, just trying to see the going prices. I can get and eagle kit HP bearings etc, and put together with bore and all for 2200 at Dwans, than cam roller etc. will be the most costly. I am estimating total cost as of now, I dont have any where near the cash lol but I want to be sure on what I am doing

yo man, if your thinkin about turbos, check thissite out :
http://www.force-fed-fabrications.com/index2.htm
very solid turbo kit, looks like, plus saves you $1k. im not tryin to turn you on to turbos by any means (i myself am a SC guy), but it seems like the better route to me

quote:
"This kit sells for $3500. The kit was prototyped on a 1997 Anniversary Edition Camaro Z28 with a 6 speed transmission. The results achieved with this kit was sure to raise a few eyebrows. This COMPLETELY STOCK LT1 Z28 Other then a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch to hold the power and our turbo kit put down these numbers on the dyno:

@ 7 psi - 485 rwhp 530 rwtq

@ 12 psi - 554 rwhp 630 rwtq"

ive sorta questioned that kit...yea, they advertise those numbers, but ive yet to see the dyno, and i know that thing wont last long at all. 550 is pushing it on the crank...450 is pushing it on the pistons. would rather just by the PTK hotside parts for like 1500 and make my own thing.
