Default Engine Sleeving

Well, I am about to start my project motor. I want to either GEM or Benson sleeve a motor. I figured 2.0, or maybe just the 1.8 stock bore. My question is, what motor to use. I have flirted with the idea of using the b18c1 motor because of the oil squirters and the fact that supposedly that is the best honda motor to boost. However, I have a few b18b1s available that I could always machine the oil squirters in. So, does it come down to vtec (whoo hoo) or non vtec since both motors will be sleeved? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

the oil squirters are not a concern when using forged pistons. u need to figure out what your power goal is for this motor and also how high u plan on revving it before u pick the block and its components

My power goal is about 450 whp. Since it is a project, money is not that big of a deal. I guess I just need to make up my mind. It is not currently a daily driver, and it will never be. Thanks for the feedback.

back to your original post. if the bottom end is built a vtec head is definitely something you want to consider no matter what block u decide to use. its high rpm flow and aggressive cams tend to like boost at higher rpms a lot more than the LS head. you will make quite a bit more power with a vtec head at a lower boost level. costwise you are looking at around this just for the block alone:

sleeving.........$1000
pistons/rings...$450
rods..............$300-$600
headstuds.......$100
oil/waterpump.$120
oem bearings..$200
random seals..$50
-----------------------------
total................$2220-2520

add.................$120
for timing belt/headgasket

the rest of the cost depends on the head used and labor/machining if necessary
