Default Total Seal rings?

i was just curious how these work? from what i hear they are "gapless" rings. well how is this a good thing with heat expansion? and which rings are gapless. i thought there were ring gap specs for a reason. any one got any insight on these things. thanks

P.S. im not looking to use them....just curious because i see them around a lot

They are two rings per groove that are arranged to cover each other's gaps.

I am concidering using them in my rebuild unless I hear anything bad about them.

So far I have not heard any negatives except some ambiguous second hand disapprovals from some honda people.

so there will be a total of 4 rings(not including oil rings or course)????

weird....seems like the rings would weld themselves together or something

Total seals seem to work much better on domestics then they are the imports. THe imports (NOT ALL THE TIME BUT IN MOST CASES) Dont seal well compared to Hastings, the new JE spec rings seem to be much better. Thats from experience of using them in motors i have personally built. not second hand.

ive heard from a couple of friends that used them in the past say that they are better for race motors cause there isnt a break in period but they taka a shit earlier than other rings. they now both go with JE
so what do you think cronic?
im building a sohc with forged pistons and rods. 18 psi. think i should go with the JE or oem? never rebuilt a motor before so im lookin for feedback from people who have crossed this road already
