While digging around in my pics folder today I came across this pic of my friend Allen Moore's turbo 2.3 Pinto downpipe after the turbine wheel broke off of the shaft (turbo had been in several high boost racecars over the years). As you can see it left a really neat pattern in the downpipe, but you can imagine what the turbine housing looked like after giving birth to the wheel
Also goes to show you just how hot exhaust piping gets in a turbo car because the downpipe didn't tear, it just bent right out of the way.

Sorry guys, I wasn't there when he pulled it apart so I don't have pics of anything internal. He still used the turbine housing on his SVO mustang, but you can imagine that boost was a bit late to build with the now huge clearences inside.
"Et's NOT a ToooMah!"
thats wicked awesome... i wanna see what the turbine wheel looked like after that... i wonder if it got spit out the exhaust or if it was still in the pipe..

I did that a couple turbos ago. I had harry(AWD-TSI) with me and the car went flat and smoke went rolling out the back. Got it home and the whole intake was covered in oil including about a quart in the inter-cooler. Turbine wheel was sitting in the 02 housing. i thought it was pretty cool. Plus it gave me a reason to upgrade the turbo.
