Default Thermal Wrap?

Is thermal wrap for i/c piping a waste of $$? What about the heat shield stuff(sorry for the retard terminology) you put underneth your hood? Any thoughts?

i use it on my naturally aspirated car, i have a friend who wraps everything, it deffinetley lowers engine temps which overall should help, it is very time consuming and kinda expensive though, but hey it also looks cool

I do not have any piping that comes close to my down pipe or turbo. I took out the a/c so the turbo sits there by itself. Thanks for the pics/info.

it helps, i promise.. the only problem is, it holds moisture on humid days when you dont drive your car... this in itself can cause problems like holding the moisture up against the metal and cause it to oxidize faster than it would if it was unwrapped... tahts why header manufactureres dont warranty the headers if you wrap them.

but it still helps...

You know a good substitute for that expensive thermal wrap would be some nice aluminum foil!......

Some day when I'm feeling bored I just may try the aluminum foil. With the dsm logger I am able to monitor under hood temperature. I will get back to you with the results later on.

I will be wrapping a lot of my exhaust system but rust wont be a concern since my headers and exhaust plumbing is stainless.

stainless can still rot over time, with the right combo of garbage!
