Exhaust cutout and downpipe ??
Exhaust cutout and downpipe ??
Would it be OK to put an exhaust cut out before the first O2 sensor off the down-pipe? Or would I need to re-mount the O2 sensor before the cutout. I dont really have any room to mount the cutout anywhere else. I plan to use it at the track (open loop) , I hear I would get a "code" if I had the cutout open under normal driving..
Mianly I want to be sure I wont have any issues with lack of fuel cause the O2 is not reading right etc.. am I on the right track?
Any help would be great..

or run rich or lean or stall or blow up or not do anyting at all.
ive seen all of these happen aside from blow up.

i thought the o2 readings were only used in part throttle, and in WOT runs (where you'd use the cutout), wheather or not the o2 got any reading was meaningless to the cars performance

smurf u might be thinking of egr, they dont run at wot in most cars. not that most people keep their egr anyways
but u might be right, i think some systems still read but dont compensate for much at wot. even an fjo wideband displays anytime the car is on, wot or not. also on some cars like obd2 240sx's where they have 2 oxygen sensors, the 2nd one is used purely for emissions purposes and unplugging it does nothing but throw a cel maybe (i cant tell my cel has been on forever for other reasons)

THe problem is it will throw your CEL as soon as you start it (unless of course you start it with your foot matted to the floor to run right up to full throttle and stay there). And that could hide another CEL that may come up.
One thing to consider, with an open dump, not all exhaust will go out the cutout, some will still make its way through the exhaust and get sniffed by the O2. Since this will be mixed with fresh air from the cutout, it will read very lean and try to fatten the mixture up. If it fattens up too much, the motor won't even clean out at full throttle and won't be fast. I would seriously consider doing it the right way the first time and not try to kid-fuck it.
