Default ***Can anyone suggest a good shop that can fix Lenses?**

My NIKON 18-55 VR Lens is not working right.
I can't get it to focus nor even click a picture.
The view through the eye looks very dark and cloudy.

I was snapping some random pics in house tonight, The View got cloudy, I cleaned the lens with a lens cloth, put the Lens back on the camera........ and things got much much worse from there.

Can anyone recommend a shop or individual that can help me pin point what the problem may be and repair it?

I'm located near Downtown Tampa.

Thanks in Advance
-Jeff

Do you have another lens to try on? Are you sure it's the lens and not the camera itself?

+1 for trying a different lens on your camera. IMHO, if it is your lens, it would probably cost more to fix the lens than it would to buy a new kit lens.

It could be a problem with the camera itself. Mirror not lifting perhaps? I also know if your battery is almost dead your camera loses alot of its function, are you sure you had enough juice to be shooting? Not sure what would cause the "cloudy" look. So I would say follow these steps.

Step 1: Be sure you battery is well charged and try it again.

Step 2: Try a different lens on your camera to make sure it is your lens and not the camera itself.

Step 3: Go into your menu and "lock up" your mirror like you were going to clean your sensor, then press shutter again to "unlock" the mirror. If something simple went wrong this may set it in place. If you do this and your mirror doesn't move, that would be your problem.

Step 4: Research your camera online with a few related keywords to see if this is a known problem with that model, and if other have a fix for it.

Step 5: If all else (and free) fails, contact a professional to have a look at it for you.

Good luck!

Thank You for the quick replies.
#1 & #2 I tried last night and still have the same issue.... only with the 18-55 VR lens, All Other Lenses work fine.

#3 ... It's only one Lens I'm having the issue with, So I don't think it's the camera..

Step 4 is the next action I will take, If that Fails... I'll be contacting Ted or looking to just buy a replacement.

Definitely get a quote before you agree to repair, the 18-55 is a beginning level lens, so it may cost more to fix it than to buy a new one, or something better like an 18-70

Yeah you may just wanna look into a slight upgrade at this point, I'd suggest what I have, the Sigma 18-50 2.8. It's done wonders for me! lol
