C&C for a noob?
C&C for a noob?
Hey guys, I've always liked photography but I can't really justify shelling out the money for a nice DSLR, so I do what I can with a point and shoot. I took some pictures at CFRC last saturday and I was wondering how I could improve? I really want criticism so that I can improve for the big drift/bbq next month. The only editing was a slight levels adjust and a border in gimp for each photo.
There will be no shortage of negative response to this thread.
Here are a few things people will say:
1.) You've got light poles growing out of the cars in a bunch of pictures.
2.) Angles usually don't help a picture. If you have to tilt the camera, you're probably taking a boring picture.
3.) You've posted a lot of pictures. You will be better served by picking out your best (3 or so) and posting those for C&C.
4.) Some of them are obviously blurry. Generally speaking, blurry means it should go in the recycle bin.
5.) On the rolling/panning shots, try playing with the shutter speed to get some motion blur in the background. (Assuming your P&S camera allows this)
Hope that helps. You're ahead of most of the first time posters here, keep up the good work.

I'm not much for good composition, so I try to use motion blurs to my advantage on rolling shots. The camera only has two settings for shutter speed; high and auto. =/ I put it on auto for all of the shots. The rolling shots were done poorly because of my seating position in the car when I was taking them. But thanks for the list. I'll probably right it down on a piece of paper and take it with me next time lol.
Yeah, these look a lot better than most amateurs on here. One thing I would suggest (along with all of Chris' suggestions), when you're taking pictures of the car drifting, the tire wall doesn't have to be included in the bottom of the pictures. Shooting in auto will only confuse the camera, and make it think you want to focus on the tires, not the subject.

Yeah I didn't purposely include the tire wall. It just kind of crept in there. =/ Now that I think of it, I could have cropped it out of them.
buy my camera!
